Knicks-Wizards (postgame)

Gilbert had an off night (yes, he's human too). But Butler's consistent play and a very good performance off the bench for Jarvis Hayes helped the Wizards win a close one. The Knicks didn't play well at all (the final scoreboard doesn't show it). Quentin Richardson carried the team tonight until the final possessions. Nicely drawn last play for the Wiz that led to Butler's dunk and game winner.

New York: 17-23
Washington: 22-16

I submitted this original poem (by me) to WizDotCom Blog on 12/24/06. Although the holidays have passed, the subject matter is rather appropriate because of what Agent Zero did in the last 6 weeks.

‘Twas the night before Xmas, the Wiz are at home
Donell’s playing Xbox; Etan’s writing poems
Verizon Center is dark and no one else is there
Except for Agent Zero, a self-made millionaire

Even Coach Jordan took a break, staying at home instead
Spending time with his family, reading to his kids in bed
And Ruffin in his PJs, wearing his skull-cap too
To keep the heat from waning and not to get the flu

Back at Verizon Center, Gilbert checks his cell
Old pal Larry Hughes had called and wondered “What the hell
are you doing shooting jumpers on Christmas Eve
You have nothing to prove; nothing to achieve”

“You’re wrong, so wrong”, said Arenas without thought
“I need to get even better; I don’t want to get caught”
I’m not a champion, not even close my friend
“I won’t rest until that day; I’ll compete to the end!”

Arenas threw his phone toward Section 117
The cell broke apart and out flew the screen
Gilbert, angered by Larry, went to the three point line
Closed his eyes, took the shot, and the ball dropped through the twine

Hard work will pay off and Gilbert knows
The more that he does, the farther he will go
Dropping 60 and 54 are just memories of the past
It’ll be difficult to keep the hibachi on high blast

“We’re a good team”, Arenas quipped out loud
“We can perform anywhere, even against hostile crowds”
Antawn, Tough Juice – keep the heat off me
That’s how we get respected as the league’s best “Big 3”

Arenas suddenly stopped, putting the ball to rest
The Chef suddenly screamed at the top of his chest
“Watch out 2007, the Wiz will be ready to fight
And Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night”

Jazz-Wizards (postgame)

The Jazz was in control of the game until the Wizards made a run in the 3rd quarter that saw the Jazz offense sputter. The Jazz came back to tie the game and it was back and forth for the last 2 minutes of the game. The showdown was Mehmet Okur versus Gilbert Arenas. Each shot clutch 3 after 3 to propel his team into the lead. At the end, it was Agent Zero to close the deal. A walk-off 3 to win again and also scoring 51 points with 1 turnover. In the words of Steve Buckhantz, he is amazing.

Utah: 24-14
Washington: 21-16

Wizards-Spurs (postgame)

I was unable to watch this game. The headlines were Eddie Jordan ejected from arguing with officials and the Wizards held to season low of 80 points. The Big 3 shot poorly and that’s what the Spurs defense is known for – a shutdown.

Washington: 20-16
San Antonio: 27-11

Wizards-Hornets (postgame)

A national game on TNT that saw the Wizards not play with the type of energy they usually exhibit. The depleted Hornets weren’t given a chance to win this game, but they did because no one gave up. Desmond Mason was sensational in the low block and the Wizards had no answer for his post move and quickness. The Wizards just hung around for the entire game and didn’t make any runs late. Too many mistakes in the last 2 minutes killed the Washington. This game could hurt the team psychologically.

Washington: 20-15
New Orleans/Oklahoma City: 14-22

Bulls-Wizards (postgame)

Kirk Hinrich was on fire. He also played good defense on Gilbert Arenas. Ben Gordon was on fire from downtown as well (5 for 6). However, once the Wizards took a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter, they didn’t relinquish. The officiating in this game was subpar with no consistency.

Chicago: 20-16
Washington: 20-14

Wizards-Raptors (postgame)

How will the team respond after Gilbert’s birthday bash? No so well. The Wizards didn’t have the energy that turned them into one of the hottest teams in December. The Raptors big men took care of any Wizards threat by getting easy baskets and hitting clutch outside shots. This was a letdown game that many thought the Wizards would win easily. That’s why they play the game.

Washington: 19-14
Toronto: 15-19

Clippers-Wizards (postgame)

The L.A. Clippers didn’t have Sam Cassell. The road woes continued for LAC as the team fell apart in the 3rd quarter and never recovered. The Wizards bench had good production. The Clippers have been disappointing even with Elton Brand playing back at the Elton Brand level of last year. The Wizards are now 6 games over .500. Last year around this time, the Wizards were 12-18, 6 games below .500.

Los Angeles Clippers: 15-18
Washington: 19-13
